The university is committed to doing everything possible to promote the safety of our community as we respond to the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). One of the best ways to prevent the spread of viral illnesses is to minimize the circumstances in which individuals might interact and transmit the disease. The university has requested that employees telework, hold meetings virtually, or postpone them.

Please review this information. As you may be aware, The Ohio State University has announced the suspension of face-to-face instruction and the move to virtual instruction effective immediately through March 31. Events deemed nonessential are postponed between now and April 20, 2020.There will be evaluation whether they should continue in person beyond this time. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of all our people. Virtual meetings are encouraged.

In 2020, the Greene County community will host a large Breakfast On The Farm (BOTF) event to educate consumers about modern commodity agriculture and the way farmers care for their animals, protect the environment and produce safe, wholesome food. Impact survey results from other similar events indicated that over 60% of the attendees were first time visitors to a farm in 20 years and that the consumers significantly increased their trust in farmers in the key areas of care for environment, care for animals, and protecting water quality. ALL HOG EXHIBITORS: PLEASE READ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PAYLEAN
The Greene County Agricultural Society (GCAS) voted at the January 2020 board meeting to ban the use of paylean (Ractopmaine) in all market hog projects at the 2020 Greene County Fair from birth to time of slaughter. This decision was based on two major issues:
Packers will be testing for and rejecting any hogs that have been fed paylean at any time during their life.
Union Stockyard will not accept any market hogs that have been fed paylean at any time during their life.

Hopefully you had an enjoyable holiday season and now it is time to begin making plans for the 2020 year. Part of this comes the time for private pesticide and fertilizer applicator recertifications.
If your license expires in 2020, you should have already received a letter in the mail from the Ohio Department of Agriculture stating that it is time to renew your license and pay your $30.00 licensing fee. Remember you can go ahead and send this fee to ODA now even if you have not yet completed the recertification training with OSU Extension yet.
