Strengthening the Relationship between Fathers and Their Children

Mission Statement

The objectives of the Fatherhood Initiative are to create stronger relationships between fathers and their children, by providing age appropriate parenting classes, and providing life skills training for fathers in the areas of money management, employability skills, and nutrition education.

 

Whose is Eligible?

Men are eligible for programs if they are biological, adoptive, stepfathers or are acting in the role of father to any child. This group includes uncles, grandfathers and mentors.

Participants must complete a Program Intake Form, and a pre- and post- program Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory.

List of Programs offered to the Fathers:

Parenting, Fathers Only

Learn new skills to handle conflict and misbehavior. Gain your child’s cooperation by encouragement  and communication. Learn how to prevent misbehavior

Help Me Grow (Parenting, Newborn – 5 years old)

Provides parenting education for families with children 0-3 using the Parents As Teachers curriculum.  It is provided to the parent and child together during home visitation. 

Enrollment into the home visitation portion of the HMG program includes the following criteria: first time parent, infant less than 6 mos. of age, less than 200% of poverty level.

Through mediation, parents are able to create their own mutually acceptable agreements regarding issues that pertain to their children.  Agreements are summarized in a written report which can be reviewed by both parent's attorneys.

Employability Skills and Expunging Court Records
   Class dates are listed below (pre-registration is required):
      Friday, October 8, 15, and 22, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
      Friday, November 5, 12, and 19, 9:00 a.m. - Noon
      Friday, December 3, 10, and 17, 9:00 a.m. - Noon

Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families Program runs consecutively throughout the year on Monday in Xenia and Tuesday in Fairborn from 5:45 to 7:45 PM.

ServSafe® Level 1 Training

A half day class that introduces the concepts of food safety, and reduction in food borne illness. This certification may enhance employability at an entry level position in any type of food service, i.e., restaurant, assisted living facility, day care or hospital.

Helathy Eating for Your and Your Kids

A cooking class to teach fathers about healthy food choices and cooking skills. This program will help Dads improve their ability to provide healthy meals for themselves and their children.
